Finding Grace in the Gospel in Genesis through Revelation

Finding Grace and the Gospel Genesis through Revelation

Welcome to today’s episode and blog. We’re taking a sweeping, Scripture-centered journey through the entire Bible to trace one of its most beautiful and misunderstood words: grace. From the earliest pages of Genesis to the final blessing of Revelation, grace is not a New Testament invention—it is the consistent heartbeat of God’s relationship with humanity.

Grace, in its simplest biblical sense, is unmerited favor, God acting in love toward those who do not deserve it. As we move book by book, notice how grace develops—from God’s favor toward individuals, to salvation in Christ, to transforming power for daily living, and finally to eternal hope.

Grace in the Old Testament

1. Grace Begins with God’s Initiative

  • Genesis 6:8 — “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” Grace appears in Scripture not as a response to human perfection, but in the context of widespread corruption. God preserves humanity by grace.
  • Exodus 33–34 — Moses repeatedly hears God say, “You have found grace in My sight.” Grace here is relational—God choosing to dwell with His people despite their failure.

2. Grace as Favor, Mercy, and Preservation

Throughout Judges, Ruth, Samuel, Esther, and the Psalms, grace appears as favor granted by God and reflected in human relationships. A key verse:

  • Proverbs 3:34 — “Surely He scorns the scornful, but gives grace to the humble.”

This verse will later be quoted directly in the New Testament, showing continuity—not contradiction—between the covenants.

  • Zechariah 12:10 — “I will pour out… the Spirit of grace and supplication.” Already, the prophets look forward to a grace that will be poured out abundantly.

Grace Revealed Fully in Jesus

3. Grace Incarnate

  • John 1:14 — “The Word became flesh… full of grace and truth.”
  • John 1:17 — “The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”

This does not mean grace did not exist before—but that grace now has a face, a voice, and a name: Jesus.

4. Grace in the Life of Christ

  • Luke 2:40 — “The grace of God was upon Him.” Grace is no longer abstract; it is embodied, lived, and demonstrated.

Grace Preached and Practiced by the Apostles

5. Grace and Salvation

  • Acts 15:11 — “Through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved.”
  • Romans 3:24 — “Being justified freely by His grace.”

Paul repeatedly emphasizes that salvation is not earned, purchased, or maintained by works.

  • Ephesians 2:8–9 — “For by grace you have been saved through faith… not of works.”

6. Grace That Transforms

Grace is not merely pardon—it is power.

  • Romans 6:14 — “You are not under law but under grace.”
  • 2 Corinthians 12:9 — “My grace is sufficient for you.”

Grace teaches, strengthens, disciplines, and sustains.

  • Titus 2:11–12 — Grace teaches us how to live godly lives.

Grace in the Life of the Church

The epistles close almost every letter with grace, reminding believers that the Christian life begins, continues, and ends with grace.

  • Hebrews 4:16 — “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace.”
  • James 4:6 — “He gives more grace.”
  • 1 Peter 5:5 — “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Grace is not static—it grows.

  • 2 Peter 3:18 — “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord.”

Grace Completed in Glory

The Bible’s final words are words of grace.

  • Revelation 22:21 — “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”

Grace begins with creation preserved, flows through redemption accomplished, empowers sanctification daily, and culminates in eternal restoration.

Grace is not only a doctrine to study—it is a gift to receive and a life to live. Wherever you are today, the same grace that saved Noah, sustained Israel, redeemed the church, and closes Scripture is available to you.

May we not receive the grace of God in vain, but walk in it—until grace gives way to glory.
