Promises of God: Seven Things He Will Do for His Children

An everlasting covenant was made with Abraham and his descendants. It was a covenant of faith. The covenant of God with Abraham assured to him and his seed the righteousness of the law by faith. Not by works but by faith. The covenant was so ample in its scope that it embraced all nations, even “all the families of the earth.”

All would be united in Christ, to share the better benefits of the covenant of promise and be a member of the commonwealth of Israel.

This covenant was backed by the oath of God and is offered for all mankind, Jew or Gentile.

This blessing came to Abraham through Jesus Christ and His cross, even as it comes to us.

^“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree:

That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3: 13, 14

The blessings of the covenant with Abraham are simply the blessings of the Gospel, they are brought to us through the cross of Christ.

^“And God spoke to Moses and said to him: “I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name Lord I was not known to them.

I have also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, in which they were strangers.

And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant.

Therefore, say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the Lord;

1. I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians,
2. I will rescue you from their bondage, and
3. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.
4. I will take you as My people, and
5. I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And
6. I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and
7. I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord.’ ”  Exodus 6: 2-8

“‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.” Exodus 19: 4-6
