In Christ The Promise That Never Fails

Salvation for All Who Believe and the Blessed Hope of Christ’s Return

“That in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ…” (Ephesians 1:10, NKJV)

There is perhaps no greater question that any person can ask than this: Can I truly be saved? Closely connected is another question that has filled the hearts of Christians for two thousand years: Will Jesus really come again to take His children home?

The Apostle Paul answers both questions with remarkable clarity. His letters, especially Ephesians, continually repeat two beautiful words that summarize the entire Christian experience:

“In Christ.”

Those words appear over and over because they describe where every believer stands—not in their own goodness, not in their own accomplishments, but safely in Jesus Christ. Every blessing God has promised comes to those who place their faith in His Son.

The gospel is wonderfully simple. Salvation is not reserved for a select few. It is offered freely to every man, woman, and child who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. God does not delight in excluding people; He delights in saving them.

As Paul writes,

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8, NKJV)

Notice that salvation is called a gift, not a reward. Gifts are received, not earned.

The Bible presents one magnificent story—from Genesis to Revelation—of a loving Father seeking His lost children, paying the ultimate price for their redemption through Jesus Christ, adopting them into His family, preparing a home for them, and finally returning to bring them safely into His eternal kingdom.

Let us consider ten of the most encouraging promises Paul gives concerning salvation, our identity in Christ, our adoption into God’s family, and our glorious future when Jesus returns.

  1. We Are Chosen in Christ

Ephesians 1:3–5 (NKJV)

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world… having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself.”

Paul begins Ephesians by reminding believers that before we ever sought God, God was already planning our redemption.

This passage does not teach that God arbitrarily chooses some people to be saved while rejecting others. Rather, it teaches that God predetermined His wonderful plan—that everyone who is in Christ becomes part of His family.

God’s heart has always been to save.

Long before Adam and Eve sinned, God already knew He would send Jesus.

His desire has always been redemption.

When we accept Christ, we become adopted sons and daughters of God Himself.

What incredible love!

  1. Redemption Through His Blood

Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV)

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”

Paul reminds us that forgiveness does not depend upon how worthy we feel.

It depends entirely upon Jesus.

The cross accomplished what no human effort could ever accomplish.

Our guilt was carried by Christ.

Our sins were forgiven.

Our record was erased.

Our future was restored.

No one who comes sincerely to Christ need fear rejection.

  1. Sealed by the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 1:13–14 (NKJV)

“In Him you also trusted… having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession.”

In the ancient world, a royal seal declared ownership.

God places His own Spirit within every believer.

The Holy Spirit becomes God’s declaration:

“This child belongs to Me.”

The Spirit is also called the guarantee of our inheritance.

God has not merely promised heaven.

He has already given believers the first installment of eternity through the presence of His Spirit.

  1. Saved Completely by Grace

Ephesians 2:4–9 (NKJV)

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us… by grace you have been saved through faith… not of works.”

These verses may be among the clearest explanations of salvation ever written.

Notice Paul’s emphasis:

  • God is rich in mercy.
  • God greatly loves us.
  • God made us alive.
  • God saves by grace.
  • Salvation is received through faith.

Our good works never earn salvation.

Instead, good works become the joyful result of salvation.

Grace changes hearts.

  1. Created for a New Life

Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works.”

The Greek word translated “workmanship” suggests a masterpiece.

God does not merely forgive sinners.

He transforms them.

Every believer becomes God’s ongoing work of grace.

Your failures do not define you.

Christ does.

  1. We Belong to God’s Family

Ephesians 2:19 (NKJV)

“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”

The gospel removes loneliness.

We are welcomed home.

We become citizens of heaven.

We become family.

The church is not merely an organization.

It is God’s household.

And every believer has a place.

  1. Strengthened by Christ Living Within Us

Ephesians 3:16–19 (NKJV)

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith… that you may know the love of Christ which passes knowledge.”

Paul prays that believers experience—not merely understand—the love of Christ.

Many Christians know about Jesus.

Paul wants us to know Jesus personally.

His love exceeds our understanding.

His presence changes everything.

  1. One Hope of Your Calling

Ephesians 4:4–6 (NKJV)

“There is… one hope of your calling.”

What is that hope?

Paul explains it throughout his letters.

It is the return of Jesus Christ.

It is resurrection.

It is eternal life.

It is living forever with God.

The Christian life is never centered merely on surviving today’s struggles.

It is anchored in tomorrow’s certainty.

  1. Children of Light Awaiting Christ

Ephesians 5:8 (NKJV)

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.”

Christ changes our identity.

We no longer belong to darkness.

We belong to His kingdom.

We eagerly await the day when faith becomes sight.

  1. Standing Firm Until Jesus Comes

Ephesians 6:10–18 (NKJV)

Paul concludes Ephesians with the armor of God.

Why armor?

Because believers live between two great events:

Christ’s first coming…

and His glorious second coming.

Until that day, we remain faithful.

Not fearful.

Hopeful.

Watching.

Trusting.

The Promise of Adoption

Paul repeatedly returns to one astonishing truth:

God adopts believers into His family.

Consider these beautiful promises.

Romans 8:15 (NKJV)

“You received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.'”

Galatians 4:4–7 (NKJV)

“God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts… therefore you are no longer a slave but a son.”

This changes everything.

Christians are not merely forgiven criminals.

They become beloved children.

Adoption means acceptance.

Inheritance.

Security.

Relationship.

Love.

The Blessed Hope: Jesus Is Coming Again

The Christian story does not end at the cross.

Nor does it end at the empty tomb.

It reaches its glorious climax when Jesus returns.

Paul speaks of this repeatedly.

Titus 2:13 (NKJV)

“Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 3:20–21 (NKJV)

“Our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior.”

1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 (NKJV)

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout… and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them… and thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

What a breathtaking promise!

Jesus is not sending merely an angel.

He is coming personally.

The graves of faithful believers will open.

Those living who belong to Christ will be transformed.

Together, God’s family will meet the Lord.

Separation will end.

Death will lose forever.

Tears will cease.

Hope will become reality.

Jesus Himself Made the Promise

Paul’s teaching rests upon Christ’s own words.

John 14:1–3 (NKJV)

“Let not your heart be troubled… I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

Jesus did not say:

“You will eventually find your way to Me.”

He said,

“I will come again.”

Christianity is built upon that promise.

Salvation Is Truly for Everyone

Paul makes this unmistakably clear.

Romans 10:9–13 (NKJV)

“Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Notice that wonderful word:

Whoever.

Not the educated.

Not the wealthy.

Not the morally perfect.

Whoever.

Anyone.

Everyone.

Jew or Gentile.

Young or old.

Rich or poor.

Regardless of your past, Jesus invites you today.

Nothing Can Separate Us

Perhaps Paul’s greatest words of encouragement appear near the close of Romans.

Romans 8:38–39 (NKJV)

“Neither death nor life… nor things present nor things to come… shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Our security is found in Christ.

Not in perfect performance.

Not in flawless obedience.

Not in constant success.

Our hope rests entirely upon His perfect love, His finished sacrifice, His ongoing intercession, and His unfailing promises.

Living Every Day “In Christ”

The phrase “in Christ” appears throughout Paul’s writings because it is the foundation of the Christian life.

To be in Christ means:

  • forgiven instead of condemned.
  • adopted instead of abandoned.
  • accepted instead of rejected.
  • loved instead of forgotten.
  • redeemed instead of enslaved.
  • hopeful instead of hopeless.
  • destined for heaven instead of eternal loss.

This identity changes the way we live.

We no longer obey God to earn His love.

We obey because we already have His love.

We no longer serve from fear.

We serve from gratitude.

A Loving Invitation

If you have ever wondered whether God could truly forgive you, the answer is yes.

If you have ever feared that your past is too dark, Jesus says otherwise.

If you feel weary from trying to earn God’s approval, remember Paul’s beautiful words:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith… it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8, NKJV)

Jesus Christ extends His invitation to everyone.

He still welcomes the sinner.

He still forgives.

He still restores.

He still adopts.

And He still promises,

“I will come again.”

The day is coming when Christ will return in glory. The redeemed from every nation, language, and generation will gather around Him with joy. The children of God—those who have trusted in Jesus Christ—will finally see their Savior face to face. Every sorrow will give way to everlasting joy, every tear will be wiped away, and every promise of God will stand fulfilled.

Until that glorious day, may we live each day in Christ—confident in His grace, secure in His love, faithful in His service, and filled with the blessed hope of His soon return.

Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
